[/quote]Matthew Williams
-Canada-
"Sometimes even I wonder if I exist, but you never forget."
Name: Matthiew Williams, Mattieu, Mattie, Matt, Matvey, Kanata, Uncle Maddy/Candyduh
Origin: I am directly above America in North America.
Gender: I am male... those pictures you may have seen were thanks to a lost bet, especially if I look bad.
Orientation: North of America. Bisexual.
Religion: Catholic (still holds to ancient beliefs of his Natives)
Birthday: July 1
Age: physically 19
Personality: ...
Calm, shy, kind, honest, rather plain jane, easygoing, softhearted and gentle. Tries to show the appeal for Canada in various ways most recently his olympic gold medals (though America just screamed there was a ghost....). Can be a bit prone to depression.
He's labeled by the European countries as 'the country to live in when you're an old man'.
Matthew Williams doesn't typically need to hide his feelings thanks to his special power, but does so furthering the Canadian Doormat stereotype. However, he does have a fierce and passionate side to him, not only displayed in Molson commercials or Hockey matches. You could describe him to be similar to two of his famous animals: the beaver and the polar bear. Like a beaver who mates for life, he is loyal (though the mating for life has yet to be seen). He thinks and plans ahead. Also he does tend to spread out (though not in the same sense a beaver would, though they have spread across Russia creating flood issues). Similar to the polar bear, he tends to blend in and remain solitary. He is social, but situations tend to leave him alone with his seemingly narcoleptic companion. One thing that should always be remembered about him is that he also has the rage of a polar bear. Beware upsetting him, especially if a hockey stick is nearby and never threaten those he loves or is loyal to.
Canada is one of the most compassionate Nations you'll meet, a trait he shares with his somewhat better know neighbor-brother. If there is a crisis or area in turmoil, best bets are that Canada will respond and be there with aid shortly. Unlike America, Canada is a ethnic collective rather than a melting pot. His people sadly more often than not will call themselves anything but Canadian, something that he still isn't quite at terms with, though he does enjoy how some Nations visit because of it. Canada has a lot of internal issues with himself due to past events and tends to internalize most of them, rather than trouble others. He has a warped view of how much a bother he is to his family and friends and tries to be as independent as possible. Unfortunately his mind is fragile and with enough maneuvering with his natural tendency toward depression he could be easily manipulated to dependency, even though he is quite stable economically. While he doesn't mind being in his brothers shadow, he does mind being mistaken for him. He appreciates everything America has done, as in the end he generally benefits (though a lot of his actions do cause his great trouble and harassment).
Appearance:
Matthew tends to hide his more effeminate build under baggy clothes. No matter how many pancakes and poutines he scarfs down, he never really gains much fat. His tummy has a tiny and healthy bit, but the rest of him is slim (though he does have hips; girly as some may have joked until Alfred heard and made them take it back) and lean muscle. Typically he keeps his short wavy hair down, but on some occasions he'll pull it back into a pony tail (mindful of brothers who might yank it) or find cute hair clips in it (courtesy of a family member - North). He does own contacts, but even when wearing them will carry around his glasses (Halifax, who has over the years had the glass grow thinner). When angry his eyes seem to freeze and take a darker maroon-purple color, but when happy they lighten and twist in color like the Aurora Borealis. His eye color sticks to what he's truely feeling, even if he doesn't know it. When scared they turn a more blue-violet tint, but when sad they look like a pale watercolor lavendar. Normally they're a calm amethyst. He's actually shorter than his twin and England by an inch and a half, not due to anything connected with his land or government which has flourished and is quite healthy, but thanks to his own doubts and fears and bad habit of hunching over. His aging was slowed due to France's care of him as a colony (there wasn't much if any development) and England's preoccupation with America.
Relationships:
(Many of the comments in these are from Canada's view)
AMERICA:
He's his brother, his twin. He will always love him, no matter what he does to hurt him or embarrass him. 1812 and all other past events still carry their mark, but Alfred always somehow knew when to pop in when he was needed most. Alfred may have been a selfish brat for most his life, until Danny showed up, but Canada kinda liked how America was so possessive and made him feel wanted. He knew his brother was an idiot and just took it as misdirected affection (much as he convinced himself that England's scones were chunks of love that were too strong they'd kill your taste-buds for months). While he loves his brother, he also hates him. He hates how Alfred would even think that he could disregard his wishes and try to take him and shove him into a gilded cage (1812), the jokes over the years, how Americans could think he was a state, that Alfred took all the glory even though he wasn't even there very long (WWI & WWII), how England and France loved him more, and how everyone thought he was America or that his name was America's Brother/Hat. But he also remembers a warm wooded area where he met his reflection and the pain he felt as he left and still feels when Alfred isn't around.
-----STATES:
The states are all very unique is the best way he thinks of their relationships with them. Some he feels like an older brother or uncle to, and others... like they need a bit more discipline from their "father".. Michigan is one of his favorites and Washington D.C. is his favorite nephew. DC has his respect and affection as an uncle. He may not be as bad as America (debatable), but he is protective of the boy (who is far taller than him when he grows up). He enjoys the boy's intellect and conversation.
FRANCE:
He is the one who "civilized him", though he doesn't blame him for that as the warm memories of cuddles and I love you's make up for all the bad. He hasn't quite dealt with feeling abandoned when he was younger, though he understands it was unavoidable. He was heartbroken when France could have gotten him back and that is what he doesn't know if he can forgive or unconditionally trust him again. His Papa is the one who gave him the warm feelings inside and he treasures that Nation for that gift. The October Crisis had him hating and loving the man in a way that made him wish he could split in half to deal with it all. Francis was, is, and will always be his Papa. He gets annoyed at the French people's jokes about his "rustic accent" but feels much better when Francis reassures him (after all he loves his French heritage). He worries for the Nation, as it kept going through rough patch after patch (especially the WW) and wants to be able to keep an eye and helping hand out for his Papa.
ENGLAND:
He used to view the man as the Caterpillar Browed Boogeyman and a cruel man who scared him when he was new to the British Empire... but over time he thought the man was like him, afraid of being left alone. He grew to loyally love him as a second Father, not like his loving Papa, but more a protective Father to run to when he needed his help from a southern invader. Even though he is certain he could never be Arthur's America or even mean that much, he will stay by his side and be the good son for him. The older Nation doesn't show it much, but Canada is sure that he loves him.
RUSSIA:
Generally he has a "good" relationship with the former Soviet Union. He enjoys his country's pancake festival and competing with the other Nation in Hockey and winter sports. Doesn't understand why Russia likes to add odd things to pancakes though. He has respect for Russia, for what he has gone through with his history/bosses, but isn't naive about how dangerous the other can be. He tries to avoid showing fear, as that won't really help... He wishes that Russia would not sit on him or try to intimidate him/others though... The tension between Russia and America is very stressful as he is located between the two and considers both an ally (some more than others). He does somewhat fear the older and larger Nation, though he keeps trying to think the best of the "new" Russia.
UKRAINE:
He has a major crush on her for her kind personality and embarrassed about his inability not to look at her large tracts of land. He was the first to recognize her as her own country and keeps good relations with her. He feels she is an ideal older sister and doesn't understand why Russia would worry her so much.
BELARUS:
She's a terrifying Nation with her obsession... and he finds it best to keep on her good side, but if she did anything to harm his loved ones... she'd soon find out what the Germans meant by Storm or Shock Troopers. Her actions make him a bit sympathetic to Russia and somewhat willing to lie and say Russia just left to go somewhere to help him out. She seems fine as long as she isn't in Russian-Love mode...
IRELAND:
She is spoiled and takes her frustrations out on the wrong person. He tries to be understanding, but has made it clear she had better not do anything while he is around or may hear about it. He wishes she'd just come to terms with her history and grow up. He realizes she's nothing but a child, but is still disappointed in her actions and behavior. He pities her current state, but realizes it better she deal with her own actions. He just hopes she will be okay.
N. IRELAND:
She is an adorable little "sister" and to be protected. He loves how she can fluster most people with her innocence and tries to keep himself the rational adult if anything looks amiss with other people's interactions.... besides someone needs to bail the rest out of jail... Her hugs are the best, especially when they turn into tickles (her being tickled).
GERMANY:
He respects the efficient man and enjoys good trade with his country, as well as immigrants. The bad blood in WW1& WW2 is taken care of, and he feels terrible for the aftermaths... but if Germany ever shows those signs again.... He will be there to stop it.
PRUSSIA:
They're good friends, though Gil can be annoying and frustrating. Him and Alfred are very much alike. He loves how Gil always sees him and knows his name and his appreciation for maple syrup and pancakes. He admires Gil for his confidence and sticking to his own desires. They disagree on beer, but it's okay that Gil is a bit stupid. He trust him and accepts his past, after all most Nations have at least one thing they regret. He feels guilt to this day for not saying something about separating the German brothers and letting Russia take Gil. He hasn't apologized because every time he decided to go to talk he ended up staying home, it makes him a coward, but he's hoping to one day be brave enough like Alfred would.
JAPAN:
He respects him for his honor and politeness, somewhat feeling bad Alfred is so rude sometimes (or was). He still remembers when he and Germany tried to invade, but hopes it is and will always be in the past.
CHINA:
China is one of if not the oldest Nation and that alone should give him the respect China has earned. He admires how China has dealt with all history has thrown and still throws at him. He believes China is wise and probably a good confidant. They both have good relations politically.
SOUTH KOREA:
Yong Soo is a good friend who randomly shows up in his house.... unfortunately he does forget who he is... unless it's a joke... He gets along amicably and is a Korean pop and drama addict. He enjoys SK's cheer and fun attitude.
HONG KONG:
His quiet half-brother has always had his respect, especially with the fireworks used on England... He has a good trade relationship and tried to help him when he could (opening his borders for Hong Kong citizens to flee to Canada when he was to be returned to Communist China). He is respectful and affectionate (cooking and caring for) toward Hong Kong.
History:
Early Canada was settled by his nomadic tribes and later began to become colonized by the Nordics, who really didn't stay too long due to an issue with a misunderstanding. Soon after Iceland fled, he was used as a resource for timber, fish, and food by the few visits of Iceland then Portuguese. Soon France and Russia began to take steps on opposite ends, France taking a more permanent position in colonization. They were both there for beaver furs. Soon more of Europe were coming to New France to take bits of the future Nation.
The Seven Years War had France Fighting England (along with other participants who swapped sides throughout). In the end, France gave Canada up for sugar plantations in Guadeloupe. At one point England offered Canada back in negotiations, but at that time Canada wasn't worth much as it seemed to be more a frozen wasteland in winter, though it did have decent resources (ones easily found in it's Southern neighbors, who had a more favorable climate and better soil). As a colony under British control, Canada began to flourish more. Due to section IV in the Treaty of Paris, French-Canadians could emigrate freely for months to get out and it also provided protection for those that stayed. During the American Revolution, the governor pushed for pro-French-Canadian rulings that allowed them to keep their religion and have a say in their government. While some French-Canadians sympathized with the American cause, they basically remained loyal to their land and Britain and fought with the British.
Over time, Canada began to gain more and more freedoms and powers due to their loyalty to the Crown. They had an issue with the United States in 1812 and the war was considered a draw (personally I believe the Canadians won). They assisted England in multiple wars gaining experience and maturity. WWI they were with England from the beginning and were unfortunately used as shock-storm troopers and suffered extremely high casualties, but also displayed immense courage (Deip Raid). The Halifax Explosion was and still is the world's largest man-made accidental explosion. Halifax, Nova Scotia was devastated by the huge detonation of the SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship, fully loaded with wartime explosives, which accidentally collided with the Norwegian SS Imo in "The Narrows" section of the Halifax Harbour. About 2,000 people were killed by debris, fires, or collapsed buildings and it is estimated that over 9,000 people were injured. At 8:40 in the morning, the SS Mont-Blanc, chartered by the French government to carry munitions to Europe, collided with the unloaded Norwegian ship Imo, chartered by the Commission for Relief in Belgium to carry relief supplies. Mont-Blanc caught fire ten minutes after the collision and exploded about twenty-five minutes later (at 9:04:35 AM). All buildings and structures covering nearly 2 square kilometres (500 acres) along the adjacent shore were obliterated, including those in the neighbouring communities of Richmond and Dartmouth. The explosion caused a tsunami in the harbour and a pressure wave of air that snapped trees, bent iron rails, demolished buildings, grounded vessels, and carried fragments of the Mont-Blanc for kilometres. Later, American support was strong, particularly from Massachusetts, with support trains bringing doctors, nurses, orderlies and much needed supplies to the effort. A relief train left from Boston, 1,100 kilometres (700 mi) away, at 10:00 PM on the day of the explosion. Relentlessly chugging through wintry terrain, it was delayed by heavy snowfall but reached Halifax a day plus a few hours later, at 3:00 AM on December 8, unloading much needed food, water, medical supplies, and some aid workers to relieve the Nova Scotia medical staff, many of whom had worked without rest since the morning of the explosion.
WWII they joined 18 days after England did. During WWII, there were attempts of Japanese and Germans to try and invade Canada through harbors (luckily American forces assisted in keeping the enemy out). After both wars, however, recognition didn't really go back to Canada as they were under the British and America came in towards the end.
The Cold War was an extremely uncomfortable moment, as if either Nation attacked the other then Canada likely would either become the battleground or get hit as well. Canada sided more with the Americans, but tried to promote peace. The Vietnam war had Canadian men joining to support American troops, though diplomatically it was "officially non-belligerent". The country's troop deployments to Vietnam were limited to a small number of national forces in 1973 to help enforce the Paris Peace Accords.
It took till April 17,1982 for Canada to officially become its own Nation due to the Canada Act.
Throughout history Canada has displayed a policy of peacekeeping and shown a great skill in this area (Suez Crisis, Rwanda, etc) as well as its strength and loyalty to allies (repeatedly deploying in support of British and American forces). American and Canadian trade and travel throughout all these issues has generally been open and supportive, currently they hold the world's longest undefended border.

Dislikes:
Being ignored/ being mistaken for America, pointless squabbles/war/fighting, messes, losing at Hockey to America, running out of real maple syrup or pancakes (he goes through withdrawl), America telling me what to do, France trying to play with my Ahoge, explaining the previous one, getting hit on as a girl (by pushy guys), England's ...."cooking"...., bigotry and the like, being abandoned, excessively hot weather, being considered weak for his peacekeeping policies, spiders, horror films or games (he has to be brave for Alfred).

Random Quirks:
Has the power of invisibility
Passive-Aggressive
It's debatable who is more over-protective, America or Canada (America is out in the open, but Canada lies)
Easily depressed when ignored or forgotten if he is trying to say or do something
Will cry over spilled maple and get revenge...
Kumajirou is connected to his heart, if Kuma is hurt he feels it.
His ero-zone is his Ahoge.
He only owns one dildo... his city not the thing France jokes about.
Halifax is his glasses (Nova Scotia not BC) and is made of shrapnel from the explosion and a bit of metal from Alfred who helped make them for him, which like many victims severely damaged his eye sight. Over time his eye sight has gotten a bit better, but it is likely he'll always wear the glasses.
Has stage-fright (France tried to boost him up, but when he left he lost most if not all self-confidence)

Remembers the Nordics as really warm and peaceful
Can't help but sing-mumble to Canadian please
Actually is shorter than America, despite being the bigger Nation
Aged slower than America (is younger too)
Has a weaker tolerance for alcohol than England.... and can be just as random
Reverts to French when angry, but his first language when really mad....
Prefers to be around the more extroverted Nations (after being with France, England, and America he feels they balance him out)
Genophobic
