Isabelle Lakewood-Jones -Kentucky, USA-
" In this farewell, There's no blood There's no alibi, 'Cause I?ve drawn regret From the truth Of a thousand lies.
So let mercy come And wash away What I've done, I'll face myself To cross out what I've become Erase myself, And let go of what I've done"
Name: Isabelle Lakewood-Jones "Izzy" Origin: Lexington, KY Gender: Female Orientation: Straight Religion: Catholic Birthday: June 1, 1650 CE Age: 20 Languages spoken: English, Scottish, Spanish, Italian
Personality: ||Sweet Southern Style|| She's good with her words, what else can you say? Though Isabelle Lakewood-Jones has been losing her hearing slowly since she was only 11, she still knows how to speak in that pretty southern way that all Belles have. Though it's slightly slurred by the problem with her ears, her voice is melodic, and Iz loves the game 'let's see who'll listen. Talking people into doing things is her specialty, though really, she'll only do it if she ABSOLUTELY needs you to listen. More often than not, the young woman's standing on her own, just on the side, to allow herself to watch the Races, especially the Derby...
||Tides, they are a Changing|| For the most part, the young woman's quite adaptive as well. She's capable of ensuring that her demeanor fits situation for the most part, save when the past is brought up to haunt her. Her mind is a strange place, warped by war and fights. Though the 'twenty' year old is like a big sister to many, and very loving, there's that part of her that won't let go of the past. There's a part of her that's still military, and still sees the world in terms of Strategy and staying alive. She's made the mistake before of having her earbuds out when gunfire went off. The last time it happened, someone nearly die because of her, so Isabelle often will just keep them in....to keep the people she loves as safe as possible...
||Give me your peace|| To her, however, there's nothing more important to charity. She's given many of the winnings from her horse, Pride of the Prarie, to the shelters and people who needed it. The last thing that Izzy wants to see is someone put out. Mostly kids. If she finds a child who looks homeless, she'll often pick them up, and take them to the Track. As she lives, eats, breathes horses, the Track's the most logical place in the world to her. She's helped raise several orphans there, most of whom now have respectable jobs. What a proud 'mother...'
||Are we there yet?|| One of her flaws, however, is that she gets easily bored. Prone to wanderlust thanks to this, it gets hard for her to ALWAYS look after her family. She's never in one place for too long, and her feet always itch to get back on the road, since she can't really seem to find her 'fit. Especially after the Wars, things became....dodgy at best for Izzy, and when she's been through a tough time, she tends to disappear for a few years. Tinkering is also a hobby of hers, fixing music boxes, and watches. It was with this skill taken up from boredom that she made gifts for two of the most important people in her life.
||Where do we go from here?|| Despite her military nature, Izzy refuses to utilize it. Oft times this makes the State rather indecisive, especially when it comes to serious matters. She'll often look down and just mutter a quiet 'I'unno...'s wh't'ver y' wan'..." and never really say more outside of that. It's believed this is thanks to her bad experiences in commanding in the field, that left her mind battered. She doesn't want to hold the fact of failure in her hands again, and all one can hope is that she'll eventually face it.
||Unbridled Spirit|| ...There is a reason her state has its name. Like the mustang, Isabelle enjoys the fact that she's totally and completely FREE. She always hated being tied back, be it by inhibition or by person. Possibly one of the many reasons Izzy's never dated, outside of her own self-concious of her limitation on her hearing. Proud and stubborn, she holds the idea to be true that there is NOTHING that can get in her way, and if anyone tries, well watch the hell out. Sweet southern ladies have a mean right hook.
Likes: + Joshua and Caroline: Like her little brother and sister, Izzy's fondest memories are of the two. As babies, she helped care for them, and they were two of the three things that kept her sane through her troubles. She calls the two her 'lights' and will do anything for them....Literally.
+ Pride: Her horse, a long lived creature, she adores him like another child. If she lost him, Izzy would be devastated. He's been with her, racing with her, for so many years, she can't fathom a life without her Pride. He's the last of her three lights...the things she can't do without.
+ Music Boxes: Simple, and intricate. Little parts working together to form one of the most whole things you can find. Izzy finds them to be the perfect expression of how she feels about things, so will tinker on them and gift them to the people she truly cares about.
+ Storms: Sounds crazy, right? But for Isabelle, nothing is more true to this world than a storm. Chaotic, unbridled, free, but when it's over, it brings new life. She's been seen standing out in the rain, under a sky as black as pitch, and just be there smiling. Crazy girl.
Dislikes: + Tranquility: The only times in her life that were ever really peaceful never really had good connotations for Izzy. Some of the roughest things she's been through went down when she thought she was at peace, so she tries to avoid it.
+ Guns: Half the time, Izzy can't be at the house of anyone who plays games with guns in them. The mere sound of a gunshot (if she hears it), sends her into a panic attack, one that drives her to attack and defend. She becomes the fierce soldier for a little bit....and has hurt people before in such fits of rage. This side of her...it terrifies Izzy...
+ Death: Even in a movie, the topic weighs too heavy on Isabelle's mind. She will often cling to the nearest person to avoid it....
Appearance: Height: 5'8" Weight: Unknown Hair: Brown Eyes: Golden brown Ahoge?: Yes Clothing style: ...Street clothes?
Relationships: + North Carolina: One of the three lights of her life, Izzy sees Caroline as both a little sister, and a daughter. She cherishes the girl, and will NEVER see her hurt....Or so help you god.
+ South Carolina: Though Izzy's pretty sure he hates her by now, she loves him nonetheless, like a baby brother, and a son. He means the world to her, and she'll step on anyone who tries to push him around.
+ America: Her dad, her brother, the answer is yes. She values him for the time he's spent with her, but at the same time, is terrified of him, and his house...mostly because she's scared of hurting anyone.
History:
Although inhabited by Native Americans from at least 1000 BCE to about 1650 CE, when European and colonial explorers and settlers began entering Kentucky in greater number in the mid-18th century, there were no major Native American settlements in the region. The Shawnees from the north and Cherokees from the south sent parties into the area regularly for hunting. As more settlers entered the area, warfare broke out because the American Indians saw settlers' attempts to own land to be encroachment on their traditional hunting grounds. The Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky still lives in Kentucky today as a state Recognized Tribe. According to a 1790 U.S. government report, 1,500 Kentucky settlers had been killed in Indian raids since the end of the Revolutionary War. In an attempt to end these raids, Clark led an expedition of 1,200 drafted men against Shawnee towns on the Wabash River in 1786, one of the first actions of the Northwest Indian War.
After the American Revolution, the counties of Virginia beyond the Appalachian Mountains became known as Kentucky County. Eventually, the residents of Kentucky County petitioned for a separation from Virginia. Ten constitutional conventions were held in the Constitution Square Courthouse in Danville between 1784 and 1792. In 1790, Kentucky's delegates accepted Virginia's terms of separation, and a state constitution was drafted at the final convention in April 1792. On June 1, 1792, Kentucky became the fifteenth state to be admitted to the union. Isaac Shelby, a military veteran from Virginia, was elected the first Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
Kentucky was a border state during the American Civil War. Although frequently described as never having seceded, representatives from several counties met at Russellville calling themselves the "Convention of the People of Kentucky" and passed an Ordinance of Secession on November 20, 1861. They established a Confederate government of Kentucky with its capital in Bowling Green. Though Kentucky was represented by the central star on the Confederate battle flag, the Russellville Convention did not represent the majority of residents. A year earlier, philosopher Karl Marx wrote to Friedrich Engels that the result of a vote deciding how Kentucky would be represented at a convention of the border states was "100,000 for the Union ticket, only a few thousand for secession." Kentucky officially remained "neutral" throughout the war due to Union sympathies of many of the Commonwealth's citizens. Confederate Memorial Day is observed by some in Kentucky on Confederate President Jefferson Davis' birthday, June 3.
Designed by the Washington Monument's architect Robert Mills in 1845, the U.S. Marine Hospital in Louisville is considered the best remaining antebellum hospital in the United States. The Black Patch Tobacco Wars, a vigilante action, occurred in the area in the early 20th century. As result of the tobacco industry monopoly, tobacco farmers in the area were forced to sell their tobacco at low prices. Many local farmers and activists united to refuse to sell tobacco to the tobacco industry. A vigilante wing, the "Night Riders", terrorized farmers who sold their tobacco at the low prices demanded by the tobacco corporations. They burned several tobacco warehouses, notably in Hopkinsville and Princeton. In the later period of their operation, they were known to physically assault farmers in the middle of the night who broke the boycott. The Governor declared martial law and deployed the Kentucky Militia to end the Black Patch Tobacco Wars.
On January 30, 1900, Governor William Goebel, flanked by two bodyguards and walking to the State Capitol in downtown Frankfort, was mortally wounded by an assassin. Goebel was contesting the election of 1899, which William S. Taylor was initially believed to have won. For several months, J. C. W. Beckham, Goebel's running mate, and Taylor fought over who was the legal governor, until the Supreme Court of the United States ruled in May in favor of Beckham. After fleeing to Indiana, Taylor was indicted as a co-conspirator in Goebel's assassination. Goebel is the only governor of a U.S. state to have been assassinated while in office.
Hobbies: -Tinkering -Horse Racing -Making damn good Whiskey -Betting -Music
Random Quirks: A.) Isabelle is mostly deaf, and it's getting worse. It comes from a combination of cannon/gunfire, and a mental condition that is causing her hearing to degenerate at a rapid rate. She can sign, and read lips, but make sure she can SEE your mouth. B.) She's REALLY good with animals, like, obscenely. Even the most skittish of horses is usually good under Izzy's tender touch.
