Caroline Alexis Jones -North Carolina, USA-
" "
Name: Caroline Alexis Jones (Wheeler) Origin: Durham, North Carolina Gender: Female Orientation: Heterosexual Religion: Baptist Birthday: 21 November , 1789 Age: 16
Personality:
A true ‘southern sweetheart’, Caroline is in many ways the opposite of her brother. She’s warm, friendly and open-hearted, always offering help or advice to those who need it. She can be a bit snappy with her brother, though, preferring to snark at him if he’s being particularly thick-skulled or brash. (This, increasingly, seems to be more often...) Caroline hates it when he gets all closed-off and pigheaded; his stubbornness in turn feeds her stubbornness, and they usually end up arguing over whatever the issue was. (For this reason, she keeps duct tape on her person. You never know.) She's actually quite intelligent, as North Carolina is home to high-ranking high schools, such as Duke. That isn’t to say she’s not stubborn. In fact, she gets it from her twin – the thick headedness is kind of hard to avoid, especially in a Southern state. It must be a Southern thing, she assumes.
Deep inside her, beyond the blonde hair and sky-blue eyes, lies the scrappy country girl from the American Revolution. She's truly rough-and-tumble when she wants to be, never hesitant to take matters (like stupid voyeurs who peep through the window AMSTERDAM) into her own hands. When she gets into this mode, which is only if she's provoked to an extreme, she goes sharp-tongued and irritable, her snarking rising to rival that of her brother. If that's at all possible.
Appearance:
At the age of 16, Caroline is willowy and slim, standing at about 5'6". She has a dancer's build, with long legs and arms, and a generally lean body; wearing an A-cup. Her blonde hair darkens to a sandy colour when she's out in the sun too long, which she does quite often. She doesn't tan too easily, which pisses her off, because she's outside far too often not to. A scar from the Civil War mars her left hip, curving over the bone. As for clothing, Caroline isn't exactly picky. She prefers tank tops and shorts (not too short, though!) in the warm weather of her home state, but will wear sundresses if she feels like being a bit girlier.
Relationships:
America: He's more of a big brother-slash-father figure to Caroline, having been around since she was just an itty bit. She does like to make fun of him occasionally, but it's all in a very loving manner.
South Carolina: Her little brother. Naturally, she's protective of him as such, but knows he can take care of himself. His thick-headedness annoys her very much. (Again, duct tape is the best option...)
Fort Worth, TX: Caroline's always been a sucker for cowboys. He's one of the sweetest people she has ever met, and they're just about dating. To put it bluntly. He's a right Southern gentleman, and she loves that.

The South during The Great Depression
(because Hiro found nothing specific)
- President Franklin Delano Roosevelt noted that the South was the 'number one priority' in terms of need of assistance during the Depression. His administration created Tennessee Valley Authority in 1933, hoping for economic stimulation. The region's growth was limited by low productivity agriculture, as well as lack of industrialization.
The South during World War II
- This period marked a time of change in the Southern states. New industries and military bases were built, providing the area with much-needed capital and infrastructure in many regions. People from all parts of the US were coming down south for military training and work in the newly-established industries, providing a surge in economy. Farmers shifted from growing cotton to items like soybeans, corn, and other foods.
The '60s and Beyond
- Growth in the South absolutely flourished around the 1960's. It greatly accelerated into the 1980s and 1990s, with certain urban areas rising to around 4 million people. Expansion in such industries as automobiles, telecommunication, technology, banking, and aviation gave some states an industrial advantage over some larger states. By the 2000 census, the South (along with the West) was the center of population growth. However, areas like Charlotte, NC, as well as Dallas, developed air pollution problems as well as long commute times.
