Personality: Kartharina appears to be your typical young girl, she likes spending times with her pets as well as playing games. She has been sheltered for most of her life and because of that she is a bit naive with a few things around the world. She believes what many people tell her, especially if they had helped her in some way, taking their words to heart. She is very gullible and because of this, there is a fear that she may be taken advantage of, no country has yet tried to do this, perhaps afraid of what Denmark may do to them.

Being far away from Denmark, actually considered in North America, Greenland does have a small fear of being left alone. She had been alone for so long that she does not want to be left permanently. With this fear, she does her best to do what is asked of her by her father, Denmark, even though she is slowly getting more and more freedom as she grows older. If there is a chance that she may be left, or her anxiety about it grows, Kartharina will break down at times, shaking and shivering as she cries.

A sweet daddies girl, Kartharina likes to spend time with her father whenever she gets the chance. She does everything she can when she is with him, making sure the time they spend together is fun. She isn't as childish as her father at all times, she will become reserved and well mannered when she is at important functions and she tends to be very shy when she is meeting someone for the first time. She likes everyone she meets and doesn't say anything rude against anyone, the only thing that may show she has any discomfort would be if she begins to look down at the floor and her hands fidget. She tends to do this when she sees Sweden, because of the 'stories' her father has told her.


Appearance: Being around thirteen years old, Kartharina hasn't started to develop her body truly yet. Her hair goes down to her shoulders and is a light blond as her eyes are a bright blue. She likes to dress in white dresses when she can, though they do tend to get dirty a bit faster then usual.

Relationships:
Denmark: The man who Kartharina views as her Papa. Even though she was recently given Self Rule, she is still a part of his Kingdom, and she doesn't want it any other way either. She loves her Papa more then anything and believes whatever he tells her. She likes to spend time with him and pall around with him as well, just being a happy go lucky little girl.

Norway: Being under Norway's watchful care at first, Kartharina always will care for him. She see's him as a motherly figure and even will call him Mama from time to time as well. She doesn't understand why he had placed her up to be lost at a card game, but there is no bad feelings towards it. She secretly wants her Mama and Papa to get back together.

America: With this country being her father's best friend, Greenland trusts him just as she would her father. She likes the Hero, enjoys spending time with him. She is very thankful that he took care of her when her father wasn't able too.

History: Kartharina spent the first part of her life with the native's of her land. They took care of her and she enjoyed running around with the dogs and other wild animals. Her first contact with other people, as well as other nations came when Erik the Red landed upon her shore. He gave her the name Greenland, which confused her a bit because the land on which she lived was not very green. With this man's landing, more people came to settle on her land only from two countries, Iceland and Norway. The Norse settles submitted to the rule of their home country around the same time that Norway entered upon a union with Denmark. This was the first time that she was introduced to her 'father' and she instantly took a shine to him, calling him Papa and Norway, Mama.

The Norse settlements slowly died off and Kartharina was left with the native Inuits once again. Various explores seemed to come and go, but connection with Denmark and Norway was severed for a while, leaving Greenland alone once more. This was the first time that anxiety hit her from being separated from the two countries that she considered her parents.

Contact was re-established in the 18th century and upon seeing Denmark again, Greenland was happy. She had been afraid she had displeased him so the laws and rules that were placed upon her, forbidding her from allowing trade to come from anyone but Denmark was not something that she acted against, worried that if she did, he would leave her once again.

Kartharina found herself living with Denmark around the time that the union between Denmark and Norway dissolved. Iceland and the Faroe islands also became a part of the reorganized Kingdom of Denmark, though Norway did not wish to let go of its claim upon either of these territories so it was taken to the Permanent court of International Justice where Norway was ruled against, losing claim to either of the territories.

On April 9, 1940 contact with Denmark was lost again when Germany occupied the country. Kartharina was taken in by America to protect her from a German invasion. This time for her was fearful, being young still and not truly knowing what was going on. She stayed under America's care until 1945, though through out that time, she gained a trust and respect for the nation.

After the war, the young Greenland that had always been protected from the outside world, was given home rule in 1979. As of today, she has been given the ability to rule herself, though any foreign matters or defense is still controlled by Denmark.
